Sculptures by Duchess Boyles range in size from miniature sculptures to ten inches tall sculptures.
Sculptures by Duchess Boyles has been a work in process since 2012. My first small sculpture was created from within a space in my heart and spirit that finally emerged and allowed me to start creating in a new artistic way. I had been painting watercolor images but now I could make things from clay, glass, metal, glitter, rocks and other items that started out with me never knowing what the final creation would be.
Sculpting with clay is something I still do currently and it’s been nearly 10 years of my creations adding beauty to the surrounding each item is placed within. Sculptures can be miniature sculptures or they range to the height of seven to ten inches tall. Some are considered wall art and other sculptures are created to be set on a shelf or flat surface.
My first real sculpture is this little woman in her cloak. The interesting thing is, none of my figurines have ever had face details and if it is a woman, the long braid will have a messy loop or area that is not perfectly braided. This is like a signature of my figurine woman and girls. The messy braid is a way I allowed myself to feel that my sculptures do not need to be what some might say as “perfect”.
I had never really worked with clay before and yet, it’s like painting but with my hands working with the colors of clay and seeing what appears. My blog on Painting With Your Mind Closed But Your Eyes Open! tells how I do my watercolors. This also applies to my sculpting unless I have a specific item I’m creating that has a specific purpose.
I’m still working on this page. I have many more items to share. Thanks for your patience.
